Latest company news about French fries are not guilty! Eat more boiled or roasted potatoes, it turns out to be more beneficial to lower blood pressure than potassium supplements

For those who do not eat starchy foods and carbohydrates, potatoes are a taboo on diet. French fries are also classified as "junk food", especially the ketchup and salt you squeeze onto the fries look very unhealthy.

However, a new study recently found that potato fried foods may not be harmful to our health. Researchers at Purdue University said that eating more potatoes is actually more helpful than taking some supplements. To control blood pressure.

The key to the nutritional value of potatoes lies in potassium. The study authors explained that increasing the potassium in the diet from foods such as baked potatoes and boiled potatoes can help reduce sodium retention in the typical American diet. According to the latest research mentioned above, eating more potatoes can lower the vasoconstrictor blood pressure of ordinary people more than taking potassium supplements.

In an experiment involving 30 men and women with pre-hypertension to high blood pressure, researchers also found that French fries are not necessarily harmful to the heart. In fact, their research shows that eating 330 calories of baked French fries on the basis of a normal diet has no effect on blood pressure.

"Although people often emphasize reducing sodium intake in the diet to better control blood pressure and cardiovascular disease risk, potassium also plays an important role. Perhaps the ratio of potassium to sodium is the most important in the entire food matrix. , Because potato flour can reduce sodium retention more than potassium supplements alone.” said Dr. Connie Weaver, the main investigator of the study.

The author of the study pointed out that there are few studies on the effect of potassium on blood pressure. Their report is the first to increase dietary potassium as a way to prevent high blood pressure.

Potatoes account for about 20% of Americans’ vegetable intake, and they also provide fiber and other key nutrients. Researchers said that eating a medium-sized potato can provide 10% of the daily potassium required by the human body. Although the typical American already eats a lot of potatoes, the study authors point out that they usually don't eat enough potatoes to meet the recommended potassium target. In total, potatoes and French fries account for 7% and 3% of the average American potassium intake, respectively.

In this study, the researchers divided 30 volunteers into four potassium intervention groups for a period of 16 days. One group was a control group who received 2300 mg of potassium per day. This diet reflects the typical American diet, and scientists believe that the intake of potassium in the American diet is very low.

Other diets include the same diet, but with the addition of 1,000 mg of potassium (ingested directly from potatoes that are baked, boiled or heated in a pan), 1,000 mg of potassium (ingested from French fries), or 1,000 mg of potassium gluconate supplements.

These results reveal the beneficial effects of eating potatoes on vasoconstriction pressure. The results of the study were published in the journal Nutrients.

This study can determine the mechanism by which potatoes lower blood pressure. Overall, they concluded that boiled potatoes or baked potatoes help reduce systolic blood pressure, while French fries and potato chips have no adverse effect on blood pressure and can be used as part of an overall healthy diet.
